Why I hate Internet Explorer

So, after all the effort that was put forth for the new look of this page, its all for nothing. When the saturation point of Internet Explorer remains steady at around 85%, this site will never properly render for the majority of people. When doing all the CSS edits and background altering, I checked it with the gecko engine in the Firefox web browser. Happily done, I decided this morning to see how it looks in other browsers. This is why I hate Internet Explorer:

Opera 9.21

Opera 9.21

Safari 2.0.4 (updated after initial post)

Internet Explorer 6.0

Internet Explorer 6

Now granted, this is with Internet Explorer 6.0 and not the newer 7.0 that has been released. I can’t imagine that it would be any better, however. What amazes me is that people still use it. So for anyone that isn’t aware there are alternatives to the shitty default, here you go:

  1. You mean you designed a website and didn’t test it on IE?

Bad designer! No cookie for you! 😉

  2. In my defense, I rarely run Windows. Ever since I got my Mac, I hadn’t looked back.

However, I’m at work right now on some chick’s computer, and the page is rendering 99% perfectly from Internet Explorer 7.0. I’M SHOCKED!!

This actually means that Microsoft did something worthwhile in a software upgrade. Yes, I said it… Good job Microsoft.

  3. Wow. That sucks. And even if it works in 7.0, I bet most people haven’t upgraded yet.

I haven’t touched IE except on public computers in a year or two. For all I know, my blogs don’t even show up on it. So you’re a better designer than I. 🙂

  4. Well, I was kidding, of course… I haven’t used IE in a long time either (except at the library or other public terminals, like phronk says). But then, I don’t design websites either… 😛
